Knit Kit - Fireside Cardigan

I am very pleased with how this turned out. I'm 5'2" and made the S size, and it fits perfectly. I watched some YouTube videos to learn how to pick up stitches, how to seam using mattress stitch, and how to sew on the pockets. I found the pattern instructions easy to follow. My only request is that the instructions specify the length of the circular needles. I used 36" for the body of the sweater, and a 60" to make the collar. By the way, it is a VERY warm sweater!

This is the very first cardigan or really any clothing item I have ever made. I of course had to google quite a bit as a novice knitter but felt that the pattern was relatively easy to use. I chose the measurements for the XS/S thinking it would fit like seen on model (I am 5’4”, 120lbs). The sleeves are 3/4 and this is me pulling the cardigan down. It is definitely cropped and I would have preferred it quite a bit roomier. Definitely size up depending on how you want this to fit. It looked a little silly at first and I was really pulling on sleeves and pockets attempting to stretch the yarn.

I'm a longtime crocheter. The fireside cardigan was my first knitting project, and it is an accessible pattern if you can knit, purl, and learn the mattress stitch for seaming. I love how soft this yarn is. I have machine washed (delicate) and blocked my cardigan, and it has exactly the shape indicated in the pictures accompanying the pattern. (I wonder if the reviewer who ended up knitting such a small one used size 8 needles instead of 8 mm needles. The needle size is 11.) I had enough yarn in all colors, but it felt "close" with some. I knitted a M/L size.

The pattern left me with a cardigan whose sleeves are really wide through the forearms (and therefore not as warm as I'd like) and about 2 inches too short for me. If I make it again, I will do the ribbing in a smaller needle size to tighten it up and extend the wrist ribbing for a few more rows. But all in all, it is a great pattern with scrumptous yarn! The pattern also includes pictures of several other color combinations with Hue + Me.

the yarn kit, did not have enough of color D to finish sweater and to sew it up. ordered more of other colors to make a hat, which made me pay postage again, had to finish the sleeve with another color from sweater. Liked the yarn, wish the pattern would have instructions on how to sew it together, but states, method of my choice, would have been helpful, with sewing on pockets, hard to do with such heavy yarn. not finished sewing it, so cant send photo.

Model shows a very oversized sweater. Model must be xs in 2xl! I knitted my usual size M, corresponding to the size chart. Was concerned as I knit that sweater seemed smaller than expected. When I got to the sleeve, I could barely get my arm in. Had to rip entire sweater out. I hope enough yarn to knit a larger size. Suspect it will not be oversized. Needless to say I am very frustrated. I did not have problems with the pattern up to where I stopped. Hue and Me yarn is nice to knit, no splitting, knots, colors are beautiful. Disappointed Lion Brand didn’t vet the pattern before offering as a kit.

After figuring out this pattern's unusual shaping, I've completed the front, back & collar. Schematics would have helped. Using bulky yarn, it works up quickly. I found it better to work the collar before the sleeves because this sweater is already very heavy on my lap. One skein of color D included with kit was insufficient, but I was able to substitute other colors for front panel.
