Crochet Kit - Granni Pocket Cardigan

This was my first garment ever and for all intents and purposes, it went great! Easy construction and no complicated stitches. I do wish that the measurements were not just given in number of stitches, those went awry for me since I don’t know how to do a gauge. I did look everywhere for a video tutorial and I did feel a bit like I was floundering throughout the pattern.
This pattern is definitely not made with any sort of curves in mind and things ended up kind of haphazard as far as the ratio of hem to shoulder went. I ended up adding a hood that ate up the excess width of the side panels though.

I purchased this kit as a Christmas gift for my great-granddaughter, who is new to crochet. I have crocheted for decades, and I found this pattern too complicated for a beginner. However, I found a Scarfie pattern number L30117 that will work beautifully with this yarn. I am excited to see how this turns out for my great-granddaughter!

I am not an absolute beginner, and was grateful for the easy, repetitive stitching, but this written pattern was tough at times. There weren't enough photos indicating how all of the pieces fit together and what it was supposed to look like and fit the body along the way. Given this was the first sweater I crocheted, I would have appreciated a little more explanation, or a link to a video tutorial. I had to take apart sections of every piece and redo, but I eventually created a wearable piece. It is my favourite cardigan design, though, and I would definitely attempt it again.
